The Coach's Corner / Little League World Series

You’ve got to love this time of year. The Little League World Series is awesome! As the Wide World Of Sports used to say, “The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat.” Kids and families living their dream. As I told my teams, “you will never work so hard to cry, for only one team will get to not cry in the end and if you don’t cry, you didn’t want it badly enough”. But all will have great memories which will last long after the tears have dried.

I figured it would come down to Georgia, Texas, and California. Georgia and California was an awesome game. Props to Georgia for a great run. I expect California and Texas will be a comparable contest if California’s tank isn’t empty, which I doubt it is. I haven’t seen much of Taipei but Mexico looks to be pretty good.

The strike zone has been ridiculously generous at times. This isn’t first year kid pitch where you need a ‘chin to shin and batter’s box to batter’s box’ strike zone.

I don’t think miking the coaches is a good idea. As we all know kids can sometimes say the darnedest things and it would be a shame for a kid to be stuck with something embarrassing replayed on sports talk radio and Youtube.

The kids are getting rewarded for all their hard work. They didn’t get to this level just playing games.

We can’t all make it to the LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES but we can all maximize this wonderful youth baseball experience. I know I am going to be cheering for those that are lucky enough to reap the rewards of their hard work and are living their dream in Williamsport this weekend.
