The object of playing team sports is for the team to make its
best effort to win. To do this the manager or coach places his
players into positions that will allow the team the best opportunity
to win. This may mean that a player that in the past has played SS
on another team may be placed at 3B on this team because the team has a
better SS or because the team is stronger with him at 3B. Kids
quite frankly don't care and shouldn't care where they play because
there is no "I" in team. But parents care. Parents care because they are
not members of the team. They have only one interest, their child. They
have the misguided idea that there are "premium" positions on the field.
They are wrong! Parents get their egos involved because they feel that if
their son is playing 3B instead of SS, THEY lose status!
